Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a self-tapping and a self-drilling screw? A self-tapping screw creates threads as it is driven into a material, while a self-drilling screw has a drill bit tip that creates a hole and then forms threads as it is driven in.

Can I use metal screws on wood? Metal screws can be used on wood, but it is important to choose the correct length and thread type for the thickness and density of the wood.

What is the difference between a hex head and a Phillips head screw? A hex head screw has a six-sided head that requires a wrench or socket to turn, while a Phillips head screw has a cross-shaped indentation that requires a screwdriver with a matching tip.

How do I choose the right length of screw? The length of the screw should be long enough to penetrate the material being fastened and have enough thread engagement for a secure hold. It's recommended to choose a screw that is at least 1/4 inch longer than the thickness of the materials being fastened.
