Our 100% Pure Wool is completely sourced, washed and scoured thoroughly in New Zealand. It is then combed and entangled into very high R-Value, non-slumping and stackable knops, which are installed as a blown in blanket. Our wool has an R-Value of 5.825 per cubic inch (R-32 in a 2x6 wall) which is the highest insulation value of any natural insulation. It is equivalent in R-Value to Closed Cell Spray Foam, but without any of the toxic chemicals, and with many added benefits, especially for those of us who are concerned about environmental impact or have chemical sensitivities.

Pure Wool has a range of attributes unmatched in the insulation industry:

  • It is a sustainable and environmentally friendly product, having a negative carbon footprint.
  • It also absorbs, and renders, VOCs (Volatile Organic Chemicals), such as formaldehyde, nitrous oxide, and sulfur dioxide, cleaning the air and making for a healthier environment.
  • Wool manages moisture by absorbing it from the atmosphere and releasing it when the Relative Humidity (RH) drops below 65%. This process retains a more constant and comfortable temperature and humidity level in the home, and eliminates the conditions for mold to grow.
  • Our Wool has a higher R value than most other insulations and is guaranteed to retain that R-Value indefinitely. R-5.825 per cubic inch.
  • Wool is also biodegradable, in that if it is no longer required it can be put under the soil and it will decompose, creating organic matter for the soil, leaving the planet in a better state.
  • Our Wool is never treated with harmful chemicals, such as Boric Acid.
  • Wool is unsurpassed as an acoustic insulator, due to its unique fiber structure.
  • Our Natural Wool Insulation resists flames due to its high nitrogen and water content. Because there is not enough oxygen in the air to allow it to burn, wool will self-extinguish. Not only is our wool flame retardant but it also does not emit noxious fumes nor melt or drip, all of which can be toxic to the lungs and skin.
  • It is a healthy option for installers as well because they don’t need to wear any protective equipment when working with this natural product.

Natural Wool Insulation Install Process

Natural Wool Isulation Installed on Attic

Installing Pure Wool Life Insulation is an easy and safe process no matter if you do it yourself or through a contractor, there is no risk involved in the installation of the product, no toxic off-gassing like Spray Foam, borax like Cellulose and other wool products or fiberglass particles suspended in the air.

Pure Wool Life Insulation is manufactured into small balls to give it the elasticity that it needs to resist slumping. These small balls are designed to be blown into attics and walls, and because wool is a natural fiber, there is no need for any protective clothing, eye protection, or breathing apparatus during installation.

It is installed as a blown in insulation and can be installed in the same places as any other type of insulation using a blowing machine like a simple leaf blowing machine for individual installation, and regular wool insulation blowers for commercial use.

Calculate the R-Value you need

The insulation value depends on the thickness of the installed product. Typical coverage rates for given R-values and density are shown below.

1.- First of all measure all areas to be insulated, measure width, height and rafter thickness or inch thickness you desire (In Attics).

2.- Calculate the Square feet you need, and multiply it times lbs /ft2 value shown in our above table.

3.- Get an Estimate of your Pure Wool Life Insulation

4.- Be prepared to install:

In Attics

Installing Pure Wool Insulation in the attic is a simple process. You can use a Commercial VersaVac or simply a standard leaf vacuum/blower and some insulation hose. We recommend this Black and Decker Blower coupled with a 3” insulation hose

Prior to installation, we recommend that you follow these guidelines:

  • Safety checks – secure and prepare the installation area, making sure that all downlights are covered
  • Measurements – approximate amount of insulation needed
  • Preparation – ensure you have the necessary tools

Recommended items for use during installation in a typical project:

  • Ladder
  • Portable lighting
  • Tape measure
  • Light covers – prevent the over-heating of down-lights and other electrical fixtures.

The insulation values resulting from the installation of Pure Wool Life Insulation depends on the thickness of the installed product. Typical coverage rates for given R-values and density are shown above.

In Walls

Installation in walls is done by first installing a fiber mesh stapled to the studs. We recommend a hammer stapler or pneumatic stapler to make it easier.

Prior to installation, we recommend that you follow these guidelines:

  • Safety checks – secure and prepare the installation area
  • Measurements – approximate amount of insulation needed
  • Preparation – ensure you have the necessary tools

Recommended items for use during installation (if applicable):

  • Ladder
  • Portable lighting
  • Tape measure
  • Light covers – prevent the over-heating of down-lights and other electrical fixtures
